TTA Director Rachael Scanlin- Davis attends training course to support Mental Health Well-being and Resilience

Here at Transport Training Academy, we like to take a holistic approach to the service we provide to our valued customers and to the training and qualifications we deliver, as well as ensuring anyone employed at TTA feels supported and valued.

We are always looking at new ways to improve delivery and to ensure that learners feel fully supported and comfortable throughout their time here with us.

Director, Rachael Scanlin-Davis, recently attended an ESF funded course with Alliance Learning on Mental Health Well-being and Resilience, which is designed to help individuals to become better able to cope with emotions and challenge irrational thinking patterns, whilst also being able to support others to develop their own resilience and wellbeing and to gain a greater understanding of how to engage others in a meaningful conversation, having developed their listening skills, thus being able to support them via the development of a resilience plan.

Through a series of presentations, exercises, role plays and scenarios, Rachael learnt how to be equipped for emotional coping skills and how to develop strategies to help not only herself if needed, but others. The course encouraged attendees to challenge their own negative thinking patterns and to instead, promote positive and rational thinking in others.

Rachael Scanlin-Davis said, “I found the course really interesting and informative. It gave me an overview of how mental health and wellbeing effects individuals and how it can manifest in different ways. The course objectives will enable me to support members of the team in their mental health wellbeing. We are also intending embedding the resilience and coping mechanisms into our training course, in particularly the driving school”.

Here at TTA, we recognise that learning and developing a new skill, in particular learning to drive a large goods vehicle and or mastering the ability to drive and operate machinery or a fork lift truck and the subsequent practical driving test at the end of the course, can prove to be quite a stressful time for a lot of people.

We already pride ourselves on the help, support, information and guidance we  deliver, but being further able to provide our learners with mental health support, should they need it and help them with resilience strategies, means that the learning journey for all of our customers should be thoroughly enjoyable with a successful and memorable outcome.
