TTA helps local boy, Alfie Adams, to fulfil his HGV driving dream

Alfie Adams C+E pass with zero faults

Following on from last week’s good news story about Eoghan Dalton, TTA would now like to bring you more good news. It’s the story of Alfie Adams

Alfie grew up around trucks and always wanted to follow in his father, Danny’s, footsteps and become an HGV driver. He did part-time work for his father and had planned to start training as a driver when he turned 18. Sadly, Alfie’s plans were devasted when his father was crushed to death by a truck in the yard in Swinton in 2014. It seemed at that point that 14-year-old Alfie’s plans were over and that he would never get to live his dream.

Alfie’s mum, Angela, desperately wanted Alfie to fulfil his dream, but didn’t know how she could fund his training. At Danny’s funeral she asked for donations so that these could to be put in trust for Alfie’s future training when he came of age. Steve Walsh, one of TTA’s DSA Registered Driving Instructors, read about Alfie’s tragic plight in the Bolton News and mentioned the story to TTA Managing Director, David Coupe. David was so moved by Alfie’s story that he decided to help and fund his training. David said at the time that it was important to help young people and support them in such tragic circumstances.

Since then Alfie has received driver training at TTA and now proudly holds both a Class 1 and a Class 2 licence. He’s currently working as a truck mechanic at a local haulage firm and is happy to do that for the foreseeable future but hopes at some point to fulfil his boyhood dream and start driving a truck for a living.

How did he find the experience, and did he enjoy his training? Well, Alfie definitely did enjoy training with the team, but admits that he struggled at times, particularly with Class 2:

“I really enjoyed training with TTA’s instructors. They were all very helpful and supportive and encouraged me to fulfil my potential. I found Class 1 relatively easy to complete and very enjoyable but struggled with my Class 2. I didn’t pass first time, but was helped greatly by Julie, (Kirkham) one of TTA’s highly experienced DSA Driving Instructors. She was really patient and supportive and encouraged me to give it another try. I did, and thankfully passed my Class 2 the second time around.”

“I can’t really thank David and the rest of the team at TTA enough. They gave me hope at a difficult time in my life and have helped me fulfil my dream. I’m so grateful for what they did for me and would like to thank them for their kindness, help and support.”
