TTA ditches Secret Santa and donates children’s presents as part of Cash for Kids Mission Christmas appeal.

In the run up to Christmas it’s all too easy to get carried away buying unnecessary and largely unwanted gifts and forget about those families who can’t afford to buy presents for their children. Christmas has become increasingly commercialised, and as a result we tend to lose sight of what is truly important. Many of us are guilty off or getting what the true meaning of Christmas really is and spending purely for the sake of spending. Sadly because of this we tend to lose sight of the issues that truly matter. You might not be aware of this fact, but there are currently 1 in 3 children living in poverty in Greater Manchester. When you consider the relative wealth of the UK in global terms, statistics like that are incredibly shocking.

So, Transport Training Academy, one of the North West’s leading training organisations, has decided to do something about it. We’ve once again decided to ditch the idea of a Secret Santa for this year and have pledged our support instead to a cause that we are passionate about. That cause is the Cash for Kids charity’s Mission Christmas appeal. The idea behind the appeal is that if every person can donate one new and unwrapped gift this Christmas and drop these off at selected B&M,Wickes, Bensons for Beds and Harveys stores across the region, then many disadvantaged local children in the area will wake up on Christmas morning with a gift they will treasure.

Why have we decided to participate in Mission Christmas rather than in one of the many other worthy Christmas appeals? Well, it’s simple really: TTA’s logistics training programmes are underpinned by a commitment to supporting and engaging with the younger generation, so it’s only natural that we should want to participate in this laudable scheme.

We can’t change the world or right all the wrongs obviously, but we can do something and play a small part in making this Christmas a little more special for those who are often overlooked. So, we’ve bought and wrapped our children’s presents and dropped them off at our local B & M store this morning. The good news is, although Christmas morning is fast approaching, there’s still time to buy a present and donate. If you’re unable to donate a gift or feel time is too short to find a present, then you can still donate directly to Cash for Kids by texting the word MISSION to give £5 or MISSIONTEN to 70808. [Texts are charged at your standard message rate and 100% of the donation will go to Cash for Kids]
