TTA’s Amy Walgate goes back to college to study for her Level 3 digital marketing apprenticeship

TTA was delighted to welcome a new member to the team last year. Her name is Amy Walgate and she works in the administration side of the business. Amy settled into her role in admin support without a problem and has fitted in very well with the rest of the team. Previously Amy worked for a number of years in a training role in the utilities and construction industries. As well as doing her day-to-day job Amy is also now studying for a new qualification in digital marketing. Here’s what Amy had to say about her experience so far at TTA and how she’s finding going back into the classroom.

When did you join Transport Training Academy and how have you found the experience?

“I joined TTA in May 2017, so I’ve been here around 18 months or so. I’ve enjoyed my time here: the staff have all been great and they made to feel welcome from the start. The work is slightly different than my previous jobs, where I worked more on the admin side of things, but I suppose as it’s a kind of variation on what I was doing before, the transition hasn’t been too difficult. My job here is to deal with the social media side of the business and update information on the website. The work is new ground for me, but I find it interesting.”

I believe you’re studying for a digital marketing qualification now: what exactly is that and what sort of work does it entail?

“It’s basically a digital marketing apprenticeship scheme. As part of the course I have to go to Manchester once a month to do the classroom study, and I also have a skills support mentor who comes into our offices to help me. I’ve only been doing the qualification for a short time and have only been to Manchester a couple of times: but although it’s still early days I am enjoying it. Hopefully when I’ve completed the course in 18 months’ time I’ll qualify and get a Digital Marketing Level 3 qualification.”

How are you finding the experience?

“It’s different and a new challenge for me, but I am enjoying it. In my previous jobs I didn’t really deal with the marketing side of things, and certainly not the digital marketing side. My previous job was admin-based, and the work was predominantly in the utilities and construction industries. When I worked there, I dealt mainly with training issues and changes in service provision.”

Do you think the studying, the new skills and the digital marketing qualification you’ll hopefully get will help you, not only in your current role at Transport Training Academy, but also in whatever job you might do in the future?

“I think it will prove to be very useful. These new marketing skills are transferable skills, so that will be helpful in the future. I’m learning about a completely different side of how businesses function. I think the knowledge and the skills will be useful and will serve me well wherever I end up in the future.”
