TTA colleagues raise £2,330 for Once Upon a Smile in skydiving challenge

TTA colleagues, David Coupe and Lauren Scanlin, successfully completed the Once Upon a Smile charity skydiving challenge earlier this month. They managed to raise the fantastic sum of £2,330 for this wonderful charity and were overwhelmed with the generosity of their sponsors. They would both like to take the opportunity to thank each and every person who sponsored their jump. How did they feel when they finally got to complete the challenge and how did they find the experience? Well, here’s what they had to say about the day’s events.

Who came up with the idea originally?

David

“Well, it was Lauren’s idea.”

How did you feel about it when Lauren mentioned it?

“I was fine with it, and Lauren was too. For me personally it was something I’ve always fancied doing, so when the opportunity arises then you just have to go for it.”

Lauren

“Yes, it was my idea originally, and I was fine with it.”

Did the cancellation of the original skydive put any sort of doubts in your mind about what you were considering doing, or did it just re-enforce your determination to get on with it and generate as much sponsorship as possible for Once Upon a Smile?

David

“I don’t think it affected me too badly or increased the tension about what we were about to do. Naturally, I was a little bit apprehensive as we were venturing into the unknown. It was only then really that the scale of what we were about to do hit home. It was only when you thought about what you were about to do and told yourself, in a minute we’re going to be jumping out of a plane, that the enormity of what we were about to do hit home.”

Lauren

I wasn’t particularly nervous, though the cancellation didn’t really help. Still, I was OK with the prospect of the skydive, and didn’t really feel any nervous until the day of the dive when we arrived at the location. The prospect of jumping out of a plane then became real and a little scary.”

How did you both find the experience?

David

“Good fun actually. It was certainly different alright! We jumped from 15,000 feet rather than 11,000 just because we could and because the weather conditions were good. I really enjoyed it and would happily do something similar again, though not immediately! I think Lauren feels the same way. I’m not sure I could do it as a hobby, but as a one-off or an occasional jump, I’d happily do it again.”

Lauren

It was really good fun like David said. The conditions were great, and the experience was exhilarating.  The thought of doing again doesn’t phase me, but like David said, maybe not straight away!

You’ve collectively managed to raise £2,330 in sponsorship for Once Upon a Smile which is fantastic. What would you like to say to the people who sponsored you for this worthwhile and invaluable cause?

David

“I’d like to say thank you very much and would anyone fancy sponsoring me on a Bungy Jump next year!

Lauren

“I’d like to say the same. Thank you so much to every person who sponsored the Skydive. It will help to continue funding the work that this fantastic charity does. WE both really appreciate your donations and can’t really thank you enough.”
