TTA’s Once Upon a Smile 2018 Sky Diving Challenge postponed due to poor weather conditions

Transport Training Academy team members, Employment Engagement Officer, Lauren Scanlin, and Managing Director, David Coupe, were all geared up to take part in a charity Sky Dive in Blackpool last weekend in aid of the fantastic local charity, Once Upon a Smile. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans. Lauren and David received the call late last Thursday advising them that because of the poor weather forecast for the weekend, the organisers had decided that it would be too risky to make the jump. Naturally David and Lauren were both very disappointed with the news, having psyched themselves up for what was likely to have proved to be a very scary and daunting challenge.

Still, onwards and ‘upwards’. The Sky Dive will still go ahead, with a new date of Friday 12th October. Lauren and David are still keen to don their jumpsuits and are determined to raise as much money as possible for this wonderful local charity. They’ve already hit their target of £2,000 but will continue to try and raise even more sponsorship money between now and the jump finally taking place. David and Lauren, and everybody at TTA, would like to thank everyone who has kindly donated to this worthy cause so far. Thank you so much for your generosity and your kind messages. We all appreciate it, and we know that staff at Once Upon a Smile do too.

So, in case you missed the story when we first publicised it earlier this summer, here’s why we’re trying to raise funds for this local charity.  Once Upon a Smile  is a Manchester-based charity which provides emotional, practical and financial support to bereaved families at the time of their greatest need. A member of our own staff and her children benefitted from this very support following a bereavement and can testify how priceless the help they received was. The Sky Dive Challenge is our way of not only showing our gratitude and support, but also raising money so that they can continue to provide these unique and invaluable services.

Once Upon a Smile is the only bereavement charity in the UK to offer a variety of support to families through difficult times, when families are often left to grieve alone with little or no emotional help and support available. Without this support, bereavement can have a devastating impact on family life, particularly on the children.

What we’re asking our clients and customers for is any support you can give to help us raise money for this wonderful charity. No matter how small the donation, it’s worth remembering two things: every little helps, and by raising money for Once Upon a Smile you will be helping bereaved families who has suffered the loss of a loved one, whether that be a parent of a child, in their time of greatest need.

It’s still not too late to make a donation. If you would like to help fund the wonderful work of Once Upon a Smile, then you can do so through the following Just Giving page
