TTA plans to celebrate Armed Forces Day by holding its own Street Party

TTA is proud to support our Armed Forces. We believe in them, appreciate the many sacrifices that servicemen and women have made for our country, and are fully committed to the Armed Forces Covenant Pledge and providing the finest resettlement training for our service personnel after they’ve left the forces.  That’s why we’re also delighted to be supporting and celebrating Armed Forces Week this year by holding our own Reserves Day/Armed Forces Day on June 28th at TTA’s headquarters in Atherton.

So what exactly is Armed Forces Week? Well, many countries around the world hold an annual celebration day to honour the bravery and dedication to duty of their military forces. The USA holds its own Veterans Day and in the UK, our celebration is referred to as Armed Forces Day. In the UK Armed Forces Day will be held on Saturday, 30th June, but the celebration will also be preceded by a week of events celebrating the Armed Forces community, including Reservists Day, where communities will be given the chance to show support to the men and women who are currently serving, reservists, service families, veterans and cadets.

Why does the UK celebrate a separate Reserve Forces Day? Well, it’s simply because the contribution reservists make to our Armed Forces often goes unrecognised. The Reserve Forces make up approximately one sixth of our Armed Forces personnel and are therefore integral to protecting the nation’s security at home and overseas, particularly providing capability in specialist areas such as medical and cyber. Reservists also give up their spare time to serve in the Reserve Forces, balancing their civilian life with a military career to ensure that should their country require them, they would be ready to serve as part of the military. So an annual Reserves Day was created to highlight and recognise the valuable contribution Reservists make to our Armed Forces. In 2018 Reservists Day will be celebrated on Wednesday June 27th.

TTA plans to celebrate Reservists Day and Armed Forces Day by holding its own event on Thursday June 28th. The plan on the day is that representatives from the Reserves will come in and give a talk to our candidates in the morning. Then at lunchtime we plan to hold a Jacob’s join street party with sandwiches, cakes and tea in the car park – if the weather allows: failing that the event will held in the warehouse. The great news is that the forecast is looking good at the moment. We’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed that the weather holds. Whether it rains or shines, we’re sure TTA’s Armed Forces Day celebrations will be an event to remember.
