TTA staff put through their emergency first aid at work paces

TTA staff successfully completed their Level 2 emergency first aid at work training at the end of January. The training was done in-house by members of the TTA team and accredited by the Highfield (HABC) awarding body. The emergency first aid at work course focused on how to prevent emergency first aid situations from becoming worse, and equipping staff with the basic life-saving skills needed to deal with emergencies until professional help arrives.

Why is emergency aid at work training so important? Well, principally because we value the health and safety of all the members of the TTA team: but there’s also a legal duty for employers to provide the training. The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 require employers to provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to enable first aid to be given to employees if they are injured or become ill at work.

So what did the TTA team members learn about on the day-long course? Well, they learned about the roles and responsibilities of a first aider, the assessment of incidents, how to manage a conscious but breathing casualty, managing a conscious but not breathing casualty, how to assist a casualty who is choking, how to assist a casualty suffering from shock, managing a casualty with an external bleed and managing casualties with minor injuries like splinters, bruises and grazes.

All the team took the training very seriously, but it’s safe to say that they had a few laughs on the day too, as the pictures of Sharron, Mike and Stuart below show.
