TTA donates Highfield ABC’s children’s book ‘ZombieGerm’ to Key 103’s Mission Christmas campaign

Transport Training Academy was proud to take part in and support the Key 103 Mission Christmas campaign, and buy and donate Christmas presents for disadvantaged local children. One of the gifts we donated was a fantastic children’s book written by one of our awarding bodies, Highfield ABC, the UK and Middle East’s leading supplier of compliance, work-based learning, training and apprenticeship qualifications. Highfield kindly gave a copy of this lovely book to all their training providers, and we thought it was only right to share it with local children and with you.

The Highfield children’s book is called ‘ZombieGerm’, and it’s a great story for both children and adults. It’s an entertaining read for everyone and re-enforces the message that being clean is actually a pretty good idea for all of us, no matter how old we are.

ZombieGerm tells the story of dirt-fanatic, Pands, who accidentally unleashes a swarm of disgusting ZombieGerms on Earth. To combat this threat, Pands and his hygiene-hero brother, Seb, are called upon to stop the ZombieGerms from turning Earth into a sea of slime and vomit. The question is, will they be able to stop the ZombieGerms in time, and will Pands be able to save his brother Seb? If you want to know how the story ends, then you’ll just have to read the book.

Where did the idea of ZombieGerm come from you’re probably wondering? Well, Highfield has spent the last 15 years publishing world-leading educational books, specialising in food safety and cleanliness. The problem is, getting the message across in a fun and interacting way that appeals to children has proved to be something of a challenge. How do you make handwashing cleanliness fun for children?

Well, author, Chris Sprenger, thought he’d hit on the perfect solution. After becoming a father and reading to his children every night he quickly realised that one of the best ways to engage with kids is through fun and disgusting stories. So Chris and his wife Becky spent years observing their boys and jotted down notes on how they interacted. When Chris had gathered enough evidence he decided it was time to turn their experiences into a children’s book. Working in partnership with writer and zombie-obsessive, Ben Major and illustrator, Chris Woffenden, Chris Sprenger created ZombieGerm.
