TTA raises £140 at Macmillan Coffee Morning 2016

Transport Training Academy, the North West’s leading logistics training organisation, was delighted to take part and support this year’s Macmillan Coffee Morning. Macmillan is a charity that is dear to our hearts, and we, along with around 150,000 others, were delighted and privileged to play a small part helping this worthy cause.

So what did we do on the day? Well, TTA staff and students from both the Management CPC and Warehousing and Storage courses managed to raise £140 at our Atherton HQ, selling an assortment of fantastic homemade and shop-bought cakes, cookies, scones, rock buns, Nutella fudge brownies, apple pie and lashings of tea and coffee.  This sum raised, along with funds from other coffee mornings, will hopefully help the charity top last year’s amazing total of £25 million for Macmillan Cancer Care.

Why does TTA feel so strongly about Macmillan? Well, the simple answer is it’s a disease that is close to everyone’s heart. We’ve all been touched, or know someone who’s been touched, by it at some stage in our lives. Cancer currently affects 2.5 million people a year in the UK, but that figure is tragically set to rise to 4 million by the year 2030.

Although the NHS is doing its best to deal with the awful effects and repercussions of this dreadful disease, it sadly just doesn’t have sufficient resources to be able to provide the quality of palliative care that people suffering from cancer need. Most end-of-life care is, therefore, provided by the hospice movement and Macmillan Cancer Support. Unfortunately, only 20 per cent of the funds needed to support hospice care are provided by the government: the rest is provided by charitable donations from us, the public. Without our help these organisations would not be able to continue to provide the sort of end-of-life care that is so desperately needed. That’s why we feel so strongly and are keen to play an active part in raising money.

Even if you missed this year’s event you can still help Macmillan by making a donation. Further details and more information about this wonderful charity can be found at http://www.macmillan.org.uk/Home.aspx. Whatever you do, or however you choose to help, we know your efforts will be greatly appreciated.
