TTA acquires two replacement Still RX 50 4-wheel forklift trucks for its Atherton HQ

TTA has recently replaced two of its counter-balance forklift trucks at it Atherton HQ. The replacement Still RX 50 4-wheel forklift trucks were delivered just under a month ago, and are proving to be every bit as good as we had hoped. Why did we replace the trucks when we already had two perfectly serviceable forklift trucks at our disposal? The answer is simple: it’s because we believe our candidates and trainees will benefit from having access to newer and better equipped models. How are the trainers and candidates finding the new machines? Well, here’s what Lee Stewart, TTA’s Head of Teaching, Learning and Quality, had to say:

Why did you decide to replace the existing forklifts?

“Our forklift truck fleet consists of 3 counter-balance vehicles and one reach truck. One of the counter-balance trucks is permanently based at our Burnley site and used for forklift truck training purposes. The other two counter-balance trucks which are based at our Atherton HQ were, unfortunately, different models: a 4-wheeler and a 3-wheeler. The problem with having two different vehicles is that learner drivers were finding it difficult to jump from one vehicle to the other. They’re different machines, so the driving experience is also different. It’s a bit like jumping from an automatic car to a manual car if you’ve never driven a manual vehicle before.”

“We obviously knew we had to do something about this, so I had a word with the David [Coupe] TTA’s Manging Director, and cleared it. He told me to go out and find something that fitted the bill at a reasonable price, and that’s exactly what we did. We still only have the 3 trucks at Atherton, but we’ve replaced the two existing 3 and 4-wheel vehicles with two identical replacement 4-wheel counter-balance fork lift trucks.”

How are you finding the new forklifts?

“We’ve had the new trucks for about 3 weeks now and they are proving be really good and very reliable. I had expected as much because we bought the trucks from one of our regular trusted suppliers in Widnes. I’m an ex-army instructor so I knew exactly what I was looking for, but David came with me to cast his eye over the trucks before we committed to buying them. We both agreed straight away that they were perfect for TTA’s purposes.”

Which model did you buy in the end?

“We bought 2 Still RX 50 4-wheel forklift trucks, and they’re ideal for us. They’re not too big, and you can vary the speed on them which makes them ideally suited to learners. You don’t want them too quick or you’ll frighten off the candidates. The trainers love the new machines and the candidates seem to think they’re great too, so everybody here is very happy.”
