TTA attends second Defence Relationship Management Conference

TTA recently attended the second Defence Relationship Management (DRM) Conference. The DRM is a single point of contact linking employers with the Ministry of Defence (MOD). The conference – Partnering with Defence – was held on 16th March 2 at the QE 11 Centre in Westminster, and brought together business professionals from national firms like Tesco, the Kier Group, HSBC and Nationwide and Defence representatives to discuss how employers can further support the Armed Forces Community and their families.

Throughout the course of the day a number of speakers shared best practice within a range of areas including recruiting service leavers, translating military skills and supporting reservist employees. TTA was delighted to attend this prestigious event and further underline its continuing commitment to the defence community.

TTA is proud to have already been awarded the Bronze Award from the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (DERS) – a scheme which recognises the commitment and support from UK employers for Defence personnel, and rewards those employers who align their values with the Armed Forces’ covenant, and pledge, demonstrate or advocate their support for Defence and the Armed Forces Community.

What is Defence Relationship Management?

Well, DRM offers advice and support on employing members of the armed forces community, and enable organisations to develop a mutually beneficial working relationship with the MOD. DRM builds on the successful SaBRE (Supporting Britain’s Reservists and their Employers) information campaign and continues defence’s work with reservists – the men and women who give up their time to train and serve alongside the regular forces – their employers, and those organisations who want to partner with defence.

The ways in which DRM offers support include:

  • employment of reservists and support through flexible
  • employment of regular service personnel at the end of their engagements, in collaboration with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP)
  • employment opportunities for service leavers with more challenging transitions including the wounded, injured and sick
  • employment of spouses/civil partners of service personnel
  • joint development of skills in areas such as engineering, medical, communications and cyber security
  • career opportunities and support for cadet adult instructors
  • tackling the disadvantages faced by service personnel in the consumer market

TTA is committed to supporting, embedding and promoting equality and diversity and safeguarding in all its training. We believe in our forces and appreciate the many sacrifices that servicemen and women have made for the country. Our support team has been advising military personnel on their resettlement options for many years. Our instructors include ex-military personnel who fully understand the emotions, challenges and difficulties ex-service personnel experience when leaving military service. Changing careers is difficult at the best of times: moving from military service to Civvy Street is another thing entirely. However, with TTA’s expert help and advice we can help ex- service personnel achieve their employment goals.
