TTA Is Proud To Support The 2014 Macmillan Coffee Morning.

Do you know what special event is going to take place this week?

No it’s not the Ryder Cup, though for some that will no doubt be very special: it’s far more important than that, and it’s something that Transport Training Academy, the North West’s leading Logistics training organisation, is proud to support. It’s the Macmillan Coffee Morning which will be held on Friday 26 September. The annual event raises much-needed funds for this worthy cause. Last year 154,000 people took part, raising over £20 million for Macmillan Cancer Care. Hopefully this year we’ll be able to raise even more.

Why is TTA so keen to take part in this year’s event?

Well, it’s simply because we feel strongly about the issue, and we want to do whatever we can to help. We all know someone whose life has been affected by cancer. It’s a disease which doesn’t discriminate and it’s a disease which will unfortunately touch most of us or our families at some time in our lives. Cancer currently affects 2 million people a year in the UK, and that figure sadly is set to rise to 4 million by the year 2030.

Although the NHS tries its best to look after and care for the people affected by this dreadful disease, its hands are tied: it simply doesn’t have the resources to be able to provide the sort of palliative care that people suffering from cancer need. Most end-of-life care is instead provided by the hospice movement and Macmillan Cancer Support. Unfortunately only 20 per cent of the funds needed to support hospice care are provided by the government: the rest is provided by charitable donations from us, the public. Without our help these organisations will not be able to continue to provide the sort of end-of-life care that is so desperately needed. That’s why we want to play our part.

So what are we planning to do to celebrate Macmillan Cancer Support Day?

Well on Friday 26 September, 2014 we’ll be running our own Macmillan Coffee Morning. The event will start at 10am. We’ve already invited our commercial customers, past clients, stakeholders and learners, and we hope that residents living in the Atherton area will also be able to attend. What are we planning on offering? Well, there’ll be a selection of homemade cakes, some of which will be made by one of our assessors who’s also a Master Baker, and a selection of ‘shop-bought’ goodies from those of us who aren’t quite up to GBBO standards. At the end of the event we hope to auction off any produce left over to local school children on their way home after classes have ended. We’re hopeful that our event will raise a good amount of money for this worthiest of causes.

How can you help?

Well, if you live in the local vicinity you can, of course, attend our event. If you don’t then it’s not too late to organise your own event. Details of what to do can be found on the Macmillan Cancer Care website ( If you aren’t able to attend, then you could always sign up to the next campaign which the charity is launching soon ‘Go Sober for October’. Whatever you do, or however you choose to help your efforts will be greatly appreciated.
