TTA To Run Part-Funded 1 Day SAFED Training Courses With Calderdale Council.

The economy may have turned a corner and we may be looking at a much brighter future for British industry over the medium to long term, but times are still tough for the Logistics Industry.

Hauliers have had to cope with not just the consequences of a global recession, but also had to deal with increased competition from foreign hauliers, decreasing margins and escalating costs. All these challenges have simply compounded the problem. The Safe and Fuel Efficient Driving (SAFED) training programme was launched in 2003 to address the problems that were confronting the industry and was designed to improve the safe and fuel-efficient driving techniques of LGV drivers to make the Logistics Industry more competitive.

SAFED (Safe and Fuel-efficient Driving) is a driver development course that aims to help businesses and organisations reduce fuel and maintenance costs, reduce CO2 emissions and improve road safety through the enhancement of driver techniques. The SAFED training programmes have been a great success across a number of transport sectors since their launch, and the SAFED brand is widely praised not just for the quality of its driver development programme, but also for the commitment and quality of its approved trainer network through organisations like Transport Training Academy.

The SAFED driver development courses bring many benefits for both companies and individual drivers.

Studies have demonstrated that these courses can lead to fuel savings of between 9 and 10 per cent, and significant reductions in carbon emissions. SAFED training has helped the Logistics Industry to complete by reducing fuel costs and environmental impact, reducing insurance premiums, reducing journey times, wear and tear on vehicles as well as driver stress and fatigue.

TTA has successfully run numerous SAFED training courses for a wide variety of clients in the Logistics Industry, and has helped to improve efficiency and reduce costs. On the strength of this reputation TTA were able to go in to partnership with Calderdale College to help to train the next tranche of SAFED-qualified drivers in the Yorkshire and Humberside areas. As part of this new joint venture, TTA will be running a number of part-funded one day Safe and Fuel-efficient Driver training courses. This programme is supported by The Skills Enhancement Fund which is co-financed by the Skills Funding Agency through the European Social Fund. TTA will be able to offer driver training for two drivers for only £105.
